Throw a valentine's day party

If you want to throw a Valentine's Day party, be sure to include pink decorations, games, music, and heart-shaped foods.

A Valentine’s Day party should be fun, romantic, and whimsical... whether you and your guests have Valentines or not! Here are some tips for throwing a fantastic Valentine’s Day bash:

Pretty in Pink Sweets

Pink is a flirty and romantic color – perfect for Valentine’s Day! Spice up your party with subtle and sweet pink touches. Instead of regular ice cubes in your drinks, make ice cubes out of pink lemonade, cherry soda, or raspberry ginger ale. Make heart-shaped sugar cookies, adding a few drops of red food coloring to the dough before you bake them. Frost some cupcakes with white icing – and be sure to add plenty of pink sprinkles.

Shape Up

Finger foods are a party must. Make some chicken and avocado salad sandwiches, and cut the sandwiches into heart shapes before arranging them on a platter. If you cut carefully enough, you can use both the heart shape is cut and the remaining bread that has a heart shape cut out of it.

Music

A party just isn’t a party without some music playing in the background. Make a mix of some romantic tunes, and be sure to include Valentine’s Day hits, such as “My Funny Valentine.” If there are going to be lots of couples at the party, be sure to play plenty of slow love songs for dancing. If you are having a Valentine’s Day party without any couples, play some funny love-bashing songs.

Capture the Memories

Purchase several disposable cameras so that guests can take candid photos throughout the party. You’ll get so many more great shots this way than if you try to take all the pictures yourself. Plus, this way you’ll actually be in some of your party pics!

A Fancy Affair

Ask your guests to come dressed to impress. It’s more fun – and definitely more romantic – when everyone is all spruced up. As the host, be sure that you are dressed with the Valentine’s Day spirit in mind – pinks and reds are essential for women, and men should be sure to wear a fun Valentine’s Day tie, like one with hearts or Cupid on it.

Goodie Bags

You may not have left a party with a goodie bag since you were in overalls, but it’s a lot of fun to give them out to your guests so that they have a token of their great night. Include such items as pink-colored rose-scented candles, heart-shaped candies, chocolates, and heart-shaped cookie cutters. For single guests, be sure to include a little black book.

The Name Game

The Name Game is a perfect activity for a Valentine’s Day party. To play, come up with several “heart throb” actors and actresses, and write their names down individually on index cards. You will need one actor for every male guest attending your party, and one actress for every female guest. As guests arrive, tape one of the index cards to their backs so that they cannot see it, but everyone else can. Guests have to ask each other questions in order to figure out which heart throb they have written on their index card. Have a prize ready for the winner (the first one to guess the name on their index card). Your prize should be something inspired by Valentine’s Day, such as a nice box of chocolates or some fresh flowers.
